Shirui Kashong Peak
The peak of the Shirui lily, a flower found nowhere else on earth
Shirui Kashong, at 2,835 metres near Ukhrul in Manipur's north-east, is one of the loveliest and most doable treks in the state — a moderate climb through grassland and forest to a summit ridge with wide views towards Myanmar. It is famous above all for the Shirui lily (Lilium mackliniae), the pinkish-lavender flower that is Manipur's state flower and grows on these slopes and nowhere else in the world.
The bloom is brief, roughly mid-May to early June, and is celebrated with the Shirui Lily Festival in Ukhrul. The trek starts from Shirui village above Ukhrul and can be done in a long day or split with an overnight; it passes through the Shirui (Kashung) National Park and the welcoming Tangkhul Naga country.
