Act East policy
The North-East is India's gateway to ASEAN. New Guwahati flights to Bangkok, Singapore and the Gulf, the Kaladan project to Myanmar, and cross-border trade at Moreh and Dawki are all meant to turn a dead-end frontier into a trading hub.
The 10% rule & DoNER
Most Union ministries must spend at least 10% of their budget in the North-East. The Ministry of DoNER and the North Eastern Council channel dedicated funds; over ₹1 lakh crore of gross budgetary support flowed to the region in 2024-25.
PM-DevINE
A ₹6,600-crore central scheme for North-East infrastructure and livelihoods; dozens of projects worth thousands of crores have been sanctioned since 2022.
Tourism as an economic engine
Swadesh Darshan 2.0, PRASHAD and the Challenge-Based Destination Development scheme are funding Sivasagar, Mawphlang, Narting and other Northeast sites; the 2026-27 Union Budget added a Buddhist-circuit scheme spanning six Northeastern states.
