Mount Japfu
Nagaland's second-highest peak and the world's tallest rhododendron
Japfu, at 3,048 metres, is the second-highest peak in Nagaland, rising just south of Kohima, and a rewarding short climb for those wanting a summit and a sunrise. From the top, on a clear winter morning, you can see the great wall of the eastern Himalaya, including Kanchenjunga far to the north-west, and look down on the Dzukou Valley on the other side.
The mountain is also home to the Guinness-recorded tallest rhododendron tree in the world, and its slopes blaze red with rhododendron blooms in spring. It is usually done as a demanding day hike or an overnight, and pairs naturally with the Dzukou trek and a visit to Kohima.
