Dambuk & Mechuka
Orange orchards, river adventure and a hidden border valley
Two of Arunachal's most alluring off-beat destinations sit at opposite ends of the state. Dambuk, in the Dibang valley, is orange country, famous for the Orange Festival of Adventure and Music held each December, when the remote valley — reached across braided river channels — fills with off-roading, camping, paragliding and live music amid the orchards.
Far to the west, Mechuka (or Menchukha) is a high, serene border valley near the Line of Actual Control, ringed by snow peaks, with a 400-year-old Buddhist gompa, wooden Memba villages and wide meadows along the Siyom river. Long closed to outsiders, it is now one of the most rewarding journeys in the Northeast for those willing to make the long drive.
