Tripura
The temple town of Tripura
Udaipur, about 55 km south of Agartala, is the ancient former capital of the Manikya kings and the temple town of Tripura, a place of lakes, tanks and shrines. Its greatest treasure is the Tripura Sundari temple (Matabari), one of the 51 Shakti Pithas and the source of the state's name, drawing pilgrims from across eastern India.
Around the town lie the great Kalyan Sagar lake with its protected fish and turtles, the ruins and tanks of the old royal capital, and the Bhuvaneswari temple immortalised by Rabindranath Tagore. It is an easy and rewarding day trip or overnight from Agartala.

Getting there
About 55 km (1.5 hours) south of Agartala by road; the nearest airport and railhead are at Agartala. No permit needed.
