Gateway town of North Tripura
Dharmanagar is the principal town of North Tripura and one of the oldest urban centres in the state, a busy commercial and railway town on the Juri river close to the Assam and Bangladesh borders. It is the trading and transport hub of the northern districts and a gateway to the region's tea and pineapple country.
For travellers it is the practical base for reaching Unakoti, the great rock-cut Shaiva site near Kailashahar, and for exploring the tanks, temples and old bungalows of northern Tripura. Its rail link makes it an easy entry point from the rest of the country.
