Pasighat, founded in 1911, is the oldest town in Arunachal Pradesh, set where the Siang river — the name the Brahmaputra carries as it roars down from Tibet — spills out of the mountains onto a broad braided plain. It is the headquarters of the Adi people and the gateway to the East Siang region.
A centre for river adventure, Pasighat offers white-water rafting and angling on the Siang, riverside camping, and the Daying Ering wildlife sanctuary on the river islands. It is also the road gateway to the Mechuka and upper Siang valleys, and has its own small airport.

Getting there
Pasighat has a small airport with Alliance Air flights; also reached by road from Dibrugarh via the Bogibeel bridge. A permit is required.
