India's gateway to Myanmar
Moreh, on the Manipur–Myanmar border opposite the Burmese town of Tamu, is India's most important land gateway to South-East Asia and a linchpin of the Act East policy. A cosmopolitan, multi-ethnic trading town, it has long been the point where goods, people and cultures cross between India and Myanmar.
Moreh is the Indian terminus of the planned India–Myanmar–Thailand Trilateral Highway, envisioned as a road link all the way to Thailand. Cross-border movement has been restricted in recent years due to unrest in Myanmar and in Manipur, so it is best visited as a frontier town rather than a crossing point — check current conditions and advisories carefully.
