Mokokchung
Cultural centre of the Ao Nagas
Mokokchung is the cultural and intellectual heart of the Ao Nagas and one of the most important towns in Nagaland after Kohima and Dimapur. Lively and education-minded, it has long been at the forefront of Naga literature, Christianity and public life, and its people are known across the state for their energy and enterprise.
The district is dotted with historic Ao villages such as Ungma, one of the largest and oldest, and Longkhum, and it celebrates the Moatsu and Tsungremong festivals with great spirit. The rolling Ao hills, morungs and terraced fields make it a rewarding, authentic stop off the main trail.

Getting there
By road from Kohima or Dimapur (a scenic half-day drive); the nearest airport is Dimapur. An Inner Line Permit is required.
