The commercial capital & gateway
Dimapur is the largest city and commercial capital of Nagaland, the state's only urban centre on the plains and its gateway by air, rail and road. A busy, cosmopolitan trading city where the hills meet the Assam valley, it handles most of the state's commerce and is the entry point for almost every visitor.
It also holds a surprising deep history: the great stone monoliths and ruins of Kachari Rajbari, remnants of the medieval Dimasa Kachari kingdom, stand in the middle of the modern city. Dimapur is the practical base from which travellers move up to Kohima and the interior.

Getting there
Dimapur has the state's airport (flights from Kolkata, Guwahati, Delhi) and its main railhead; Kohima is 3 hours uphill. An Inner Line Permit is required.
