Bongaigaon
Industrial & rail hub of Lower Assam
Bongaigaon, in Lower Assam, is an industrial and railway town built around one of the region's major petro-chemical complexes — the Bongaigaon Refinery (now part of IOCL) — and a key junction of the Northeast Frontier Railway. It is a planned, industry-driven city that anchors the economy of western Assam.
The town is a convenient base for the temples and archaeological sites of Lower Assam, including the rock-cut caves and sculptures at nearby Kakoijana and the ancient sites around Abhayapuri, and a gateway towards the Bodoland region and the Manas foothills.
