The Tea City of India
Dibrugarh, in Upper Assam, is famous as the 'Tea City of India' — the commercial nerve-centre of the country's greatest tea belt, surrounded by hundreds of estates that have shipped Assam tea to the world for over 150 years. It is also an oil-and-gas town, a river port on the Brahmaputra, and increasingly a healthcare and education hub for the whole of eastern Assam and beyond.
For the traveller it is the comfortable gateway to Upper Assam's attractions — the Ahom monuments of Sivasagar, the river island of Majuli, the Dibru-Saikhowa national park, and heritage tea-estate stays. The Bogibeel bridge just downstream now links Dibrugarh directly to Arunachal Pradesh, opening up the eastern Himalaya.

Getting there
